Love, or the Lack Thereof
When Anna gets accepted into her dream art school in London, everything she thought she wanted with her best friend, Noah, begins to unravel. Love, or the Lack Thereof is a tender and heartbreaking coming-of-age story about unspoken love, missed chances and courage it takes to choose yourself–even if it means leaving someone behind.
Directors Statement
I've always dreaded the day I would have to leave everything behind and move thousands of miles away from home, from my friends and family. For 19 years, I've stayed in the same place (Indonesia), so the idea of moving away felt unrealistic. That was until I entered my first year of high school, and graduation was just a few years away. That was until the actual day of my high school graduation. My tight-knit friend group was spreading around the globe, and the idea of that scared me.
This story was inspired by some recent choices I've made in my life. Moving away, you realize that not all friendships last that distance. Now being gone for almost a year, the once tight-knit group I left with has shrunk because sometimes people fall apart and don't keep up the same energy as others when it comes to keeping in touch.
I want to make this film to convey this feeling that I'm sure many people have gone through. Not everyone will be a prominent figure in your life, no matter how long you've known them. People grow apart, you change, and sometimes change is good.
